what is the point of short films?

short films are created for many reasons. one main reason short films are created is that they are a great start for up coming directors or anyone who wants to get into film production. short films are really good for up coming directors because they can get first hand experience on what it is like to direct a short film and also the challenges that come with it. upcoming directors can also experiment with techniques and styles of filming because short films do not have the same media coverage as big Hollywood productions do. it also allows up coming directors to really showcase their skills and showcase their style of film and also look at other upcoming directors style and see if they can integrate some of there techniques into their work. short films also allow up coming directors to build a reputation and fan base which can then provide feedback for the director to take in and adapt their skills which then can help secure a future in the film production industry. also short films are a really good way to display a message about culture and society and the problems that they involve. short films are also good for displaying stories and tales because they are easy to maintain the audiences attention because they are so short.

who makes them? and who is in them?

short films are made by upcoming directors and people who have a passion for film production to depict a story and to educate others and to showcase their talent and style. they are mainly produced by upcoming directors because they do not need investment unlike big Hollywood productions. they are also fairly easy to produce and very little requirements to get started. however some companies produce short films. for example Trett films. short films also provide a platform and opportunities for young upcoming actors to gain experience and gain a passion for acting. however short films do not require upcoming actors they can be performed by friends and family of the producers and even the producers themselves.

how and where are they exhibited?

exhibiting short films obviously does not get the same media coverage and exhibition methods as big Hollywood productions have but they can still get a large amount of recognition and appreciation for their work. there many platforms that upcoming directors can use to showcase their work but one of the biggest is YouTube. with over two billion users worldwide and 76% of internet users having their own YouTube account, YouTube is a great platform for directors to showcase their work and get recognised by not only other upcoming directors but also big production companies. YouTube also allows other uses to provide feedback to the producers and also have ways in the directors of the short films to even get paid for their work. another big platform that is known in the film production industry is Netflix. Netflix had 163 million subscribers at the end of 2019. Netflix is a great platform for young upcoming directors to showcase their work and talent. also one of the most popular places for short films to be showcased is film festivals. there are over 500 major film festivals around the world and thousands of smaller local festivals. they are mainly set up and funded for by film production companies and film critics. they bring in big crowds which allows the directors recognition. they also provide massive opportunities for upcoming directors.

has this always been the case?

after researching this topic i have found there have been many rise and falls in the trend of short films but they started being produced around the 1920s. one of the biggest directors was Charlie Chaplin and he directed many short films around the 1920s. after the big hit of music television {MTV}  in the 1980s when the short film industry became popular again. they became so popular that Michael Jackson was even hiring producers to shoot some short films for him. but it wasn't till around 2010 that short films became a lot less excusive to production companies because phones were being built with better cameras and platforms such as YouTube were being created so young upcoming directors could produce their work.

who watches short films?

due to platforms like YouTube being so big most users of the internet have access to watch loads of short films. however people most likely to watch short films are other short film directors and other people that are really passionate about all aspects of the film production industry. also students who study film usually are very intrigued about short films and find many interesting. they also may increase in popularity in the near future which means even more people will watch them.

edit: I analysed the first student made film then chose to analyse anxiety and roadside as well.
