There are many aims I have for my short film. one of my aims that I would like to achieve is to create a short film that is immersive for the viewer and creates a thrilling narrative. Another aim for my short film is to display a message that mental health effects a lot of people to the audience through the narrative of the story and the micro elements of my short film. this aim is one of the main aims of my short film and i am determined to achieve this aim.
To display this message I will be embedding the micro elements into my short film focusing on miss en scene and especially character expression because this element is key for displaying the message and its effects. I will be using a lot of close up shots to display the characters facial expressions to allow the audience to understand the characters emotions and also to create the audience response of sympathy for the main character. Character expression is also very key because I will be using limited dialogue to ensure the audiences focus is on the characters emotions. Also a lot of non diegetic sound will be used to accompany and reinforce the miss en scene.
due to the nature of the film being a realistic, educating short film, my short film will be following a linear narrative of a characters life and the problems they faces in day to day life. hopefully the way the characters life is displayed will allow the audience to relate to the character and also create a type of bond with them like the character in the short film anxiety where the audience creates a bond with the character Madeline and relates to the problems she faces.
I want to create a contemporary and realism aesthetic for my short film due to the aim of the film portraying issues associated with mental health and I do not want big expressive scenes taking the audiences focus away from that message I am trying to display. also I would like to use a balance of colourful scenes and dull coloured scenes to reflect the characters emotions. i would also like to incorporate a lot of cuts in my short film to focus on the characters expressions that assist the narrative of the scenes.
the target audience of this short film will be people that are around the same age of the character and possibly even people who have anxiety. this short film is also trying to reach the audience of people who do not know or understand the severity of mental health of young people.
